Betty Mirnyowan

Betty Mirnyowan is both a weaver and a jewellery artist. Betty collects her material for basket weaving from the mangkurrkwa (pandanus) on Groote Eylandt. She also makes her own string for weaving string bags.

Her jewellery pieces feature adidira (shells) collected from local beaches on Groote Eylandt and Bickerton Island and mamadidira (seeds) from a range of plants growing at the beach and in the jungle.
