This striking ochre on wood carving is the creation of renowned artist Phillip Morris Larjarra. Phillip’s artistic journey began during his youth when he lived in Jimardi Outstation. Phillip’s paintings primarily focus on birds, particularly the white Egret bird known as Gomarla, which holds significance within the songline he sings.

Phillip Morris Larjarra, in addition to his artistry, is a skilled singer. He acquired his singing talents under the tutelage of his grandfather, Johnny Guybaka. Johnny served as his mentor, teaching him the songs and ceremonial rituals, with the aim of preserving these traditions and transmitting the stories and songlines to the coming generations.
