This painting is from his exhibition: CODE-SWITCHED, a showcase of ceramics alongside acrylic paintings. Alfred’s paintings are characterised by their vibrant colours and carry the same bold mark-making style evident in his handcrafted ceramics.
Central Australia is a politically and racially charged region and this has fuelled Alfred’s keen interest in politics and racial justice. In particular how culture and identity are navigated and manifested in modern times. Alfred knows these themes are underlying in his work; as an early career artist he is still examining how these influences and experiences are reflected in his artistic practice.

In Adelaide Alfred creates daily in the APY Adelaide Studio. Renowned for his unique handcrafted ceramics, his creations echo the organic and natural beauty of the local landscape. Alfred's work incorporates a variety of underglazes and distinctive mark-making techniques.
