This earth pigment on wood carving is by artist Kevin Munggurr.  Gomulu is the Heron, totemic to most of the Yolŋu peoples.

Kevin Munggurr is from the Dhalinybuy community, a small settlement on the fertile soil on the Cato River that flows into Arnhem Bay in North East Arnhem Land, about 1.5 hours south west of Nhulunbuy. Dhalinybuy is Wangurri clan land – about 30 people live there. The community are strong and proud of their Wangurri heritage.

Kevin says: “I have been working with Buku Larrngay Art Centre making Yidaki (Didgeridoo) and carvings of birds and fish. I have been working as an artist for fifteen years now in 2017. I taught myself how to do these things.”
