Safe Space Artist Residency program
The Safe Space Residency Program is designed to empower early-career visual artists, providing a unique opportunity to develop studio practice, build meaningful networks with peers and mentors, and create a new body of work. This eight-week residency takes place at Aboriginal Art Co’s dedicated studio space in Brisbane and culminates in a solo exhibition in the renowned Vault Gallery.
Nestled within Brisbane’s vibrant Cultural Centre Precinct, Aboriginal Art Co facilitates connections with leading institutions such as QAGOMA, the State Library, and the Queensland Museum, offering unparalleled support for artistic research.
What Artists Can Expect:
The Safe Space Residency offers comprehensive financial and in-kind support to foster creativity and professional growth. Each artist receives:
- Artist Fees (new work/non-acquisition): $2,018
- Artist Stipend: $2,560

Materials Budget: $500
(Total cash support: $5,078)
In addition, artists are provided with:
- 24-hour access to the Safe Space Studio
- Two mentoring sessions with accomplished artists
- Professional documentation of works
- Gallery hire and solo exhibition in the Vault Gallery
- A networking event with industry professionals
- Development of an artist website
- Photography and videography for promotion
- Advertising and facilitation of art sales both in-gallery and online
