"I am a Torres Strait Islander Artist. I feel spiritually connected to turtles. Waru/Nam (turtle) is one of my totems I have inherited form my father and my mother’s side of the family. Turtles are unique, they connect to the sea and the land. From birth, turtles have to survive the natural cycle of their life span. Making it to the sea after hatching, surviving predators and a long life when successful. But we humans have added something foreign to their environment that is endangering them and all sea animals.
This body of work speaks about the damage and the changes affecting our Marine Animals. We need to, ‘Make the Change’ to save all living things. Not just in the sea but on the land as well. Without balance in nature, we are all doomed. Trawler nets lead to overfishing, damaging seabeds, marine animals getting caught and dying. Nets pollute our ocean and coastlines. Endangering all creatures in the sea and on the land.Moon: Represent the cycle of every year. This has been an ongoing issue. My Waru is asking, ‘When is this going to stop’? His home, the sea and the land are suffering. We need to ‘Make the Change’ so do what you can, ‘Be the Change’." Jessie Mordey

Each Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander artist, art centre and business are unique and prices are negotiated and can vary.
Generally speaking, we take a 30% commission on sales to cover our overheads; it costs to have a prime location in a Brisbane metro area, professional staff, insurances, marketing and communications, administration and general expenses running a gallery and retail space.
