Gomulu (Heron) by Kevin Munggurr
This earth pigment on wood carving is by artist Kevin Munggurr. Gomulu is the Heron, totemic to most of the Yolŋu peoples.
Kevin Munggurr is from the Dhalinybuy community, a small settlement on the fertile soil on the Cato River that flows into Arnhem Bay in North East Arnhem Land, about 1.5 hours south west of Nhulunbuy. Dhalinybuy is Wangurri clan land – about 30 people live there. The community are strong and proud of their Wangurri heritage.
Kevin says: "I have been working with Buku Larrngay Art Centre making Yidaki (Didgeridoo) and carvings of birds and fish. I have been working as an artist for fifteen years now in 2017. I taught myself how to do these things."

Each Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander artist, art centre and business are unique and prices are negotiated and can vary.
Generally speaking, we take a 30% commission on sales to cover our overheads; it costs to have a prime location in a Brisbane metro area, professional staff, insurances, marketing and communications, administration and general expenses running a gallery and retail space.
