Utopia : Art Centre Highlight exhibition

The Utopia Highlights exhibition showcases a vibrant collection of works by emerging artists from the remote homelands of Utopia, located north-east of Alice Springs in Central Australia. Painted in acrylic on linen, these artworks celebrate the rich knowledge systems of Country, depicting bush foods, native plants and natural medicines that have sustained communities for generations.

Through intricate patterns, bold colour palettes and deeply personal connections to place, the artists share stories of abundance, seasonal change and the enduring relationship between people and the land. Together, these works offer a contemporary expression of cultural knowledge passed down through generations while highlighting the strength and creativity of a new generation of Utopia artists.

Utopia Art Centre works across 16 remote homelands and is located on Arlparra Country, 250kms northeast of Alice Springs. The Art Centre supports emerging and established artists, providing a space for intergenerational learning and cultural expression in the Homelands.

“We’re strong. We’ve been holding this country. We’ve been waiting a long time for that power to come back. Old people gave us that power a long time ago and now we’re making strong canvas here. This is our art story now.” – Sam Jampijinpa Mbitjana Dixon.
