Ceramic Plate by Christopher Harris
This stunning handcrafted ceramic plate features a beautifully detailed sgraffito design of stingrays, created by Christopher Harris, a highly respected Gunggandji artist and Master Potter from Yarrabah.
With more than 50 years of experience in pottery, Christopher is regarded as a cultural leader and master craftsman within his community. His work reflects a deep connection to Country, culture, and traditional storytelling, seamlessly blending artistic expression with the functionality of everyday ceramic ware.
Using the sgraffito technique, intricate stingray motifs are carefully etched into the clay surface, creating a striking contrast of texture and detail. Stingrays hold significant cultural meaning, symbolising longevity, wisdom, connection to the sea, and the enduring relationship between people and the natural world.
Each plate is individually handcrafted, making every piece unique. More than a functional object, it is a work of cultural art that carries the stories, knowledge, and artistic legacy of one of Yarrabah's most respected potters.
