Opening Event : Medicine Woven Through the Tide by Kieron Anderson

Opening Event : Medicine Woven Through the Tide by Kieron Anderson

Aboriginal Art Co is proud to present the opening of Medicine Woven Through the Tide, the first solo exhibition by Quandamooka artist Kieron Anderson.

Developed through the Occupy Residency, this compelling new body of work explores the deep relationship between saltwater Country, ancestral knowledge and the living systems that have sustained Quandamooka people for countless generations. Through ceramics, sculpture, carving, painting and moving image, Anderson reflects on medicine as something that exists not only in plants or animals, but within the reciprocal relationships between people, Country, tides and the ocean.

At the heart of the exhibition is the dugong (Bagirang), a cultural teacher, provider and keeper of ecological knowledge. Its movements through the seagrass meadows, the rhythms of the tides and the cycles of saltwater Country speak to generations of observation, responsibility and care. These enduring relationships form the foundation of Anderson's practice, where cultural knowledge is remembered through making and renewed through connection to Country.

The exhibition features ceramic dugong sculptures, a large carved timber sculpture, paintings and an immersive projection. Woven forms and natural materials create an environment that speaks to kinship, memory and belonging. Together, the works honour the resilience of Indigenous knowledge systems and the understanding that healing is woven through Country itself, in the movement of the tides, the regeneration of seagrass and the continuation of cultural practice.

Medicine Woven Through the Tide marks a significant milestone in Anderson's artistic journey, celebrating his return to ancestral knowledge and his ongoing commitment to sharing Quandamooka stories through contemporary art.
